LSCP BOARD OF DIRECTORS – CALL FOR NOMINATIONS & 2023 ELECTIONS

The Lake Superior Community Partnership (LSCP) is comprised of hundreds of member businesses, local governments, and other local organizations. As of February 28 (2023), the LSCP officially moved to a membership governance model, allowing for the direct election of Directors to our Board. This page provides all the information you’ll need related to the 2023 nomination and elections process.

ELECTIONS

Elections will occur at the LSCP annual membership meeting, tentatively scheduled for Monday, April 10 at 4:00. The election will be held in person. All members of the LSCP who are in good standing* are eligible to cast a vote. At the meeting, a slate will be presented which has been vetted by the Nomination Committee; voting members will be able to vote for the entire slate or individuals. Floor nominations are not permitted under the LSCP bylaws. For the 2023 election, the current Board of Directors will serve as the Nomination Committee.

For this first election under our new membership governance model, all seats on the board (up to fifteen) will be up for election in varying terms. This will ensure more controlled turnover in future years.

    • Cycle A: Seats 1 – 5 | One-year term, expiring at the annual membership meeting in 2024
    • Cycle B: Seats 6 – 10 | Two-year term, expiring at the annual membership meeting in 2025
    • Cycle C: Seats 11 – 15 | Three-year term, expiring at the annual membership meeting in 2026

*The LSCP bylaws define good standing, in section 2.1, as having paid their annual partner investment within 90 days of their annual membership start date. If you are unsure, please contact Megan O’Connor, Outreach & Development Specialist, at megan@marquette.org to confirm your organization’s membership status.

SERVING AS A DIRECTOR

All Directors must be employed at the time of election and throughout their tenure by an LSCP member in good standing (the member is technically elected to the Board of Directors; however, the expectation is that the same person will represent that member for the entirety of the term). Those interested in serving as a Director should be able and willing to:

    • Complete an orientation meeting with the CEO between April 11 and April 21
    • Attend regular meetings on the last Tuesday of each month at 7:30 am in downtown Marquette (except for July and December)
    • Commit time to prepare for and actively participate in discussion
    • Balance different perspectives and reach agreeable solutions
    • Actively promote the LSCP’s work
    • Help attract new members to the partnership
    • Assist in growing revenue through investments, contracts, donations, etc.
    • Work with other Directors, the LSCP Chief Executive Officer, LSCP staff, and all our partners in a professional and productive manner
    • (2023 Special): Participate in an active strategic planning process to develop a 1 – 3 year strategic plan for the organization

You may access the formal LSCP Directors Expectation Policy for full details. Note: This policy was adopted under the previous governance model and is currently being reviewed for updates

You may also wish to review the LSCP Board of Directors Bylaws.

NOMINATION PROCESS & FORM

All interested applicants should complete the online interest form below. You will be asked to provide key contact and demographic information as well as prompted to provide information on your previous work with the LSCP and other community service. You must complete the application in a single sitting. All interest forms received by 5:00 pm on March 23 will be reviewed for inclusion in the 2023 election slate.

The LSCP Board of Directors (serving as the nomination committee for the 2023 election only), will review all applicants at their regular meeting on March 28th and formally nominate a slate of candidates. LSCP staff will reach out to all applicants following the March 28th meeting with an update and next steps.

Elections are scheduled to be held on April 10. All newly elected Directors should plan to schedule an orientation session with the CEO between April 11 and 21. The Board of Directors will hold the annual organizational meeting on Tuesday, April 25.
